Our News & Blog has been around since 2009. Some older articles may be formatted for styles and layouts that have since become deprecated. I've left them up, rather than removing all the old articles. Please excuse the broken links and feel free to comment or email if you're unable to view any of our old articles.

Zoo 2.5

Zoo expands on Joomla's already versatile content management system (CMS)

A content management system (CMS) is the collection of procedures used to manage work flow in a collaborative environment. These procedures can be manual or computer-based. The procedures are designed to do the following:

  • Allow for a large number of people to contribute to and share stored data
  • Control access to data, based on user roles (defining which information users or user groups can view, edit, publish, etc.)
  • Aid in easy storage and retrieval of data
  • Reduce repetitive duplicate input
  • Improve the ease of report writing
  • Improve communication between users

In a CMS, data can be defined as nearly anything: documents, movies, pictures, phone numbers, scientific data, and so forth. CMSs are frequently used for storing, controlling, revising, semantically enriching, and publishing documentation. Serving as a central repository, the CMS increases the version level of new updates to an already existing file. Version control is one of the primary advantages of a CMS.

Zoo expands on this, and opens up greater sophistication. Pre-developed applications can be installed into Zoo, laying the groundwork for your Product Catalog, Blog, Business Directory, Download Archive or Video website.

Customization

ZOO offers a lot of possibilities for developers to create your own apps. Apps are file based like Joomla templates, which means just copy and paste an app folder into ZOO and the app works. To make it even easier just zip your app and it can be installed through the ZOO app installer. Apps have their own content parameters, templates, layout positions, etc. They can even have their own custom elements - And all in one package! Check out the developer section in our documentation to get started and don't forget to create a nice icon for your app.

Additional Modules and Plugins

Besides the ZOO component itself additional modules and plugins are bundled in the download package. They allow a seamless integration into Joomla and provide a richer tool set to create your website.
